HeartCalc is an application which can help physicians, patients and even normal persons to estimate the occurrence of Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
Cholesterol is a fatty substance that naturally occurs in the body. It consists of two low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol). High LDL cholesterol levels are linked to atherosclerosis, which can cause arteries to narrow or become blocked, slowing or stopping the flow of blood to vital organs, especially the heart and brain. Subsequent blockages may result in heart attack or stroke. However, in some cases the high level of LDL is passed down through families and the condition begins at birth and can cause heart attack at an early age. This disorder is known as Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). Statistics show that 1 in 250 people in the world have FH. Early aware of FH disorder can significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks or storke in the patients.
Now, you or your family doctors simply input some parameters in the apps and can immediately estimate the risk of suffering from FH.
